Chrysanthemums (Short Film)

Synopsis: Over one hot summer day, a trio of high-school friends reflect on and navigate through their mental health issues. Constantly cracking jokes, these three girls try to spend their last moments in joy, as later that night they plan to follow through with a suicide pact. They drink, smoke, and walk around the streets of New York, biding their time before everything comes to an end. Eventually though, two of the group members adjust their point of view, while one struggles to see the silver lining. With intent to accurately mimic the unsettling, yet playful conversations I had experienced in high school, I began writing Chrysanthemums. I didn’t write it with the thought of financial accomplishment or how good the end product would be, I wrote it for myself and for anyone who has experienced the exact same thing, or something similar. With my personal mental health struggles becoming seemingly impossible to ignore, it was extremely difficult to do anything except think about the unrest my brain was feeling. We care about this story. Though it’s not our complete reality in our personal pasts, which were in some ways both worse and better than the story provides, it’s still very telling to the conversations I was having at such a young age. Given that I dealt with this, I know others have too. So this story is for those who at some point were lost and out of control of their emotions at some point as well.
